Tony Keddy

Key Grip

Managing director - grip hq

Tony Keddy has been a Key Grip for over 30 years in the New Zealand Film and Television Industry. In that time he has worked on large scale film projects such as Lord Of The Rings, Avatar, The Hobbit, and various TVC’s that have had a significant amount of motion control elements to them. It was during filming for The Hobbit where an entire unit was dedicated to the scaling of the cast, that Tony began to really appreciate the benefits of motion control.

Working with this equipment day in and out for a year, Tony was able to refine and hone their processes and also developed a very simple scaling programme by working with the Techno crane.  Last year his Auckland based grip company, Grip HQ, was excited to purchase a brand new Techno Dolly with a view to having at least one more by the end of this year.

Adi Harris

Remote head tech

Adi Harris has been working full time as a grip for the last 4 years, In the last two specialised as a Head Tech on various productions, features, TV shows, TVC’s and music videos such as The Wilds (2019/20), Shadow in the Cloud (2020, Triangle (2019), Baby Done (2019) and Letter for the King (2019). It’s a very interesting position as it requires you to build a diverse skillset and an understanding of what the “shot” is requiring. Remote Heads are an incredibly versatile and increasingly important piece of equipment. Depending on the head and the application, you will learn to understand stabilisation, dolly grip and shot dynamics, dollys, cranes, tracking vehicles, complex camera rigs like cable cams and descender rigs, visual effects  integration as well as an in depth understanding of how cameras are built and work.
