Starting on her Locations path with Short Film & Drama projects before woking on Large Scale Commercials, Music Videos and even documentaries has shown that the fundamental skills of Location Management of all shoots have some key preparations required... regardless of format or budget. <image:title>LM/LC Course Leaders - Philip Turner - Location Manager</image:title>
<image:caption>Philip started his working life in Queenstown as a ski bum, thinking it was a worthwhile alternative to further education. Eventually, after a very late and short stint at university, he got a job as (an older) PA on a Japanese TVC. "It was quite different to anything I had done in the past - chaotic and interesting at the same time - and you got paid to eat the most delicious food I had ever seen outside a good restaurant (NZ film caterers are legendary)." Philip decided the locations department was for him. "In theory I would be able to utilise existing skills and take photographs, something I had loved doing as a kid. Roughly 15 years later here I am, still trying to ski, ride a bike or roam the countryside with camera in hand." Philip’s credits include Mulan (2020), Alien: Covenant (2017) and Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018). Philip will be presenting as part of out Location Managers’ Course, discussing the importance of location lists and scouting photos, going through the differences, how to use online maps, and the importance of managing images.</image:caption>

<image:title>Course Participants - Mandi Lynn</image:title>
<image:caption>Auntie Mandi? Am I Fat? This question, asked by a 5-year-old changed the trajectory of my life. Up until that point, I was a multi-award-winning master photographer running a successful photography studio that specialized in making women look “damn good”. I realized that I was culpable in creating the culture that had led to my niece’s question and I needed to make amends. Ghost Nets of Venus is my directorial debut. It is a short-form documentary that follows my journey to create an artistic counterpoint to the toxic effects of Instagram/Photoshop culture on our youth. But really I am just a side character in the film because as I was shooting it I discovered the deep layers of trauma that our mothers were battling in a sometimes futile attempt to have that trauma not spread to the next generation. My quest as a storyteller/now accidental philanthropist is to find out what can be done to stop the trauma from spreading. I do this through our charitable trust, Every Body is a Treasure Trust. Where I teach visual storytelling as a tool to develop self-compassion.</image:caption>

<image:title>LM/LC Course Leaders (Copy) - Philip Turner - Location Manager</image:title>

<image:caption>Emma Slade’s feature THE JUSTICE OF BUNNY KING starring Essie Davis (The Babadook) and Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit) had its world premiere at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival to raving reviews. She is currently delivering the absurd comedy NUDE TUESDAY, a feature starring Jackie van Beek (The Breaker Upperers), Damon Herriman (Mindhunter, Judy&Punch) and Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), as well as David Farrier’s (Dark Tourist, Tickled) latest feature documentary. Recently, Slade produced COME TO DADDY, an NZ/Irish/Canadian official co-production, which premiered at Tribeca 2019 and after premiering at numerous festivals was released world-wide in 2020. The project won best director (Ant Timpson) and actor (Elijah Wood) at the Toronto After Dark Festival 2019. In 2017, her young adult thriller THE CHANGEOVER starring Timothy Spall (Mr Turner) and Melanie Lynskey (The Intervention), was in competition at the Alice Nella Citta, Venice Film Festival. Earlier that year, Slade produced INTO THE RAINBOW, which was the first Chinese/NZ co-production, starring Willow Shields (Hunger Games) and the Brazilian/NZ feature LITTLE SECRET, which was nominated as Brazil’s Oscar entry for Best Foreign Film 2017. In 2018, Emma co-founded SWAG (Screen Women's Action Group) which in consultation with all screen sector bodies, relevant government departments, and sexual violence organisations is committed to tackling sexual harassment in the New Zealand screen industry. In 2019, Emma co-founded SHARE THE KNOWLEDGE, a training/mentorship programme that supports the growth and sustainability of New Zealand’s Screen Industry by creating meaningful pathways to employment with a focus on being industry led and industry focused. Emma is a producer and the founder of production company Firefly Films. In 2020, Emma along with four other New Zealand producers – Desray Armstrong, Leela Menon, Fraser Brown and Victoria Dabbs set up the TAHI PRODUCTION SERVICES company to service international projects coming into the country. Emma is also a founding member of the Screen Women’s Action Group (SWAG), which began in January 2018 as a local response to the international movements #metoo and TimesUp. SWAG was driven by their belief that more could be done to address sexual harassment, discrimination and power imbalances in New Zealand’s own screen culture.</image:caption>
