PICTURE is a unique learning opportunity for filmmakers. In a series of hands-on workshops, you’ll learn the art and science of marketing and releasing a film.

You’ll work with experts in distribution, exhibition, sales, marketing, design, impact producing, publicity and festival strategy. With their advice, you’ll develop a clever, practical plan for the release of your next film. You will finish the course with a detailed Distribution and Marketing plan.

You’ll also learn how to persuasively pitch your film through practice pitches with detailed, constructive feedback that will guide you to the best possible version of your story. We’ll start with a pitching session designed to finesse your pitch. Most weeks, you will pitch your film to each expert guest.

WHO:

Picture ’24 is open to any filmmaker with a feature film at an advanced stage of development and intended for cinema release. There are also ‘observer’ places available to early career filmmakers with a film in development but not yet at an advanced stage. There are 8 places available in total including up to 6 observer places for early career filmmakers.

WHAT OUR PARTICIPANTS HAVE SAID ABOUT THE COURSE:

45 people have now been through the Picture course. Here’s what previous participants have said about it:

“I hope you can see the impact of what I’ve learned woven into the fabric of this very special little film.”

“The course was fantastic. Pitching each week to different segments of the industry made you see the project through their eyes. It also made you think about what was essential in your pitch – the things that mattered and things that didn't.”

“Thanks for a great course. We're coming out much stronger than going in. Pitching directly to exhibitors was a revelation and a reminder that the gatekeepers at the other end are just as important as those further upstream!”

“The Picture learning experience is a fantastic opportunity – one that I can’t recommend highly enough. Anyone lucky enough to do it must grab it with both hands.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed the course – it was a really encouraging, caring and safe environment and has probably done more for my development in a few months than years of just trying to do it.”
